Design Decisions Near for 113 Renovations

Community groups join District to assist decision making.

As a $114 million renovation project for Deerfield and Highland Park High School is about to get underway, design decisions are close to being made for key elements of the plan, according to information provided by Township High School District 113.

This first of a number of milestones is the look for the physical education facilities at Highland Park and Deerfield High Schools, including a new swimming pool, and third floor improvements to the A Hall at Highland Park.

Officials from the District, architects at Perkins & Will and the construction manager were joined by an oversight committee including expert volunteers from the community and groups who will be using the facilities to help with the decision making.

Since the $89 million referendum was passed in April and planning began in earnest, the committee has met with the design team five times including a tour of Lake Forest High School, which had a similar project recently.

“A clear emphasis has been placed on incorporating value engineering, where the least cost and least invasive but most energy efficient systems are chosen,” the District wrote in an email.
