Free Cancer Screenings

NorthShore University HealthSystem in collaboration with the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance is hosting a free oral cancer screening open to individuals 18 years and older on Sunday, April 22, 9am–11:30 am, Highland Park Hospital Kellogg Cancer Center, 757 Park Avenue West, Highland Park. Registration is required. To register go to:  www.Northshore.org/calendar or call 847.570.1066. Individuals currently diagnosed with a head and neck cancer or individuals under the supervision of an oncologist or an ENT for previous head and neck cancer diagnoses should not register for this screening. The screening will include a visual exam of the neck, mouth, and throat, and physical exam of the salivary glands, lymph nodes of the neck and the thyroid gland. Risk factors for head & neck cancers include:  tobacco and marijuana smoking, chewing tobacco, and alcohol use. Signs and symptoms include a mouth sore that does not heal or increases in size; lumps or patches inside the mouth; thickening of the cheek; persistent sore throat or difficulty swallowing and persistent pain in one ear.
