Parent Education Program on Internet Safety for Teens and Pretens

The North Shore School District 112 PTA/O Presidents Council is sponsoring a parent education night on Internet Safety for Pre-teens and Teens from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 29 at Elm Place School, 2031 N. Sheridan Road, Highland Park.

 Deputy Karen Kates of the Lake County Sheriff's Office will give an eye-opening and informative presentation, covering topics including protecting your child from identify theft over the internet, helping your child safely maneuver social networking sites, the dangers of chat rooms, internet crimes against children, family guidelines for home computer use and more.  Attendees will:

  • learn strategies for protecting your child from internet predators
  • participate in a live demonstration of internet chat rooms
  • learn methods to protect your child and safeguard against compromises to safety and identity theft

Deputy Kates will be joined by Deputy Chief of Criminal Investigations George Manis, who will both provide opportunities for questions and answers.  Come learn from experienced law enforcement officers.  The presentation is for adults only, and is most applicable for parents of children grades 4 and up.
