On Thursday, September 6, 2012, Highland Park High School will host the annual Open House. At Open House, parents/guardians meet their students’ teachers and learn about the classes their children take each day. The evening showcases the quality efforts of our teachers, staff, and students. The evening is structured to allow parents/guardians the opportunity to follow a shortened version of the student’s daily class schedule. “Classes” begin at 6:30 p.m. for those parents who have a son/daughter with early bird classes.

Refreshments are provided by the PTO. Parents/guardians should also visit with representatives from voluntary organizations who do great work to support our students such as the Giants Booster Club and the District 113 Foundation. They will provide information at tables located throughout the building.

Beyond Open House, we underscore the need to stay apprised of Highland Park High School information. The district/school website will serve as a primary communication tool for District 113 news. We encourage our community to frequently check the site for Board of Education action and upcoming events and information specific to HPHS. Our public library has Internet access for those families who do not have access at home.

Highland Park High School proudly announces the availability of academic resource assistance offered to students. The school’s support center is built upon the foundation of students helping their peers, in The Learning Center. The Learning Center provides tutoring in English, math, science, social studies, and world languages.

TLC features specially selected student tutors whose primary role will be to help peers improve their academic performance. Teachers will provide student tutors with extensive training and oversee the tutors’ efforts to offer thorough and specific support for their peers. Working together on this initiative, teachers and students will enhance academic achievement at HPHS.

The Learning Center is located near the school’s front entrance on Vine Avenue in room A220. Students seeking help in any of these areas will find the Center open from 7:00-3:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and from 8:00-3:30 on Wednesdays. Note that during first semester only the center will be closed the first school day of each week in order to prepare for second semester.
