Highland Park High School Debate Team Places 1st at Tournament

The HPHS Debate Team placed 1st in the invitational divisions with Caleb Goldstein receiving the highest achievement as the 3rd place Quality Speaker (3rd out of 250).

Highland Park High School recently hosted the Tournament of Champions Qualifier and Invitational; over 400 competitors from 25 schools competed in the two divisions.

The HPHS Debate Team placed 1st in the invitational divisions with Caleb Goldstein receiving the highest achievement as the 3rd place Quality Speaker (3rd out of 250).

Individual awards also went to: Claire Rafson, Cari Kraus, Andy Kaufmann, and Isaac Lasko won Critic’s Choice Awards. 1st Place Speaker went to Corey Novak and Alex Froy. 2nd Place Speaker went to Ben Karp. Best Presiding Officer went to Claire Rafson, Ben Karp, Cameron Deahl, and Andy Kaufmann.

In the TOC division Alex Gordon placed 7th, Matt Kaufmann placed 11th, and Daniel Nussbaum placed 15th (out of 500 season competitors). Runners up included Alex Foster, Eli Ruffer, Marty Schatz, Jacob Zionts, and Alexa Soren. The varsity team placed 2nd overall in the upper division.
