Highland Park High School Debate Team Places 2nd at Tournament

The varsity team placed 2nd out of 26 schools and over 500 competitors at a recent invitational tournament.

Congratulations to the Highland Park High School debate team for their magnificent performance at their recent invitational tournament and novice workshop. 

The varsity team placed 2nd out of 26 schools and over 500 competitors.  There were many individual awards earned at both the novice and varsity level:

Varsity:  Critics’ Awards went to Cari Kraus and Marty Schatz.  1st place speaker went to Alex Foster, Eli Ruffer, Alex Gordon, Matt Kaufmann, and Jacob Zionts.  2nd place speaker went to Alexa Soren.  Best Presiding Officer went to Andy Kaufmann, Matt Kaufmann, and Cari Kraus.  2nd place Quality Speaker went to Matt Kaufmann (2nd place in the entire tournament), and 2nd place Legislation Award went to Alexa Soren and Cari Kraus.

Novice:  21 new team members attended an evening workshop, and a novice competition.  1st Place speaker went to Caleb Goldstein and Noah Brown.  2nd place speaker went to Jamie Hendler, Benjamin Rubin, Daniel Lishansky and Ross Hozman.  3rd Place speaker went to Sarah Dincin, Corey Noviak, and Dana Abelson.

This tournament was one of the best HPHS has attended, winning more individual awards than any other school in the competition.
