Highland Park High School Students Named Commended Scholars

Twelve HPHS students and 19 from Deerfield High School placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students nationwide. District 113 also had eighteen students named National Merit Semifinalists.

Thirty-one Deerfield and Highland Park High School students have been named Commended Students in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program. 

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2013 competition by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Tests.

Highland Park High School: Alex Foster, Natasha Galperin, Ali Harwood, Emily Hines, Tara Jagadeesh, Colin Miller, Riley Mort, Melissa Needlman, Max Schwartz, Cameron Voloshin, Nika Arzoumanian, Colette Adatto. 

Students Selected to Perform in Unique Festival 

Congratulations to the Highland Park High School students named to the Illinois Music Educators Association District VII Music Festivals.

These students were selected based on their tone, technique and reading skills. They will participate and perform in district festivals in November, along with their peers from over 50 other high schools and with college conductors from around the Midwest. The day will consist of an intensive rehearsal culminating in a festival performance. The following students were selected to perform: 

Orchestra – Pia Sanpitak, violin; Rachel Overby, harp; Band – Scott Beck, horn; Scott Greene, clarinet; Nina Laube, bassoon; Rachel Rooth, bassoon; Christian Wells, bassoon; Chorus – Jonathan Fishman, bass; Melanie Neilan, soprano; Jazz Band – Philip Martinez, guitar; Vocal Jazz Ensemble – Becky Keeshin, soprano.
