High School Freshmen Help Rehab Home

Students helped prepare home for new family.

About 40 Highland Park High School freshmen students helped the gut a home on Nov. 19 to get it ready for a new family.

The students helped rehab the rundown house, which will be a home for a low income family when finished.

"I like that we're doing something good for the community," said HPHS student Charlie Mintz. "And it's a lot of fun, too."

Community Partners for Affordable Housing is a nonprofit that strives to provide affordable housing for local low income families. The organization typically buys homes in need of some care, rehabs them, and then sells them at a price significantly under market value. In order for a family to qualify for a home they must not earn more than 80 percent of the median income for the area.
