Parents Assail D113 Board, Superintendent Over Budget Cuts, Principal Departure

Monday's board meeting got heated when parents objected to the board and Superintendent George Fornero's leadership on budget and personnel issues.

District 113 parents took Superintendent George Fornero and the school board members to task at Monday’s meeting for what they consider bad leadership that has led to budget cuts and the resignation of popular Highland Park High School Principal Brad Swanson, according to an article in the Highland Park News.

Twenty speakers discussed what they see as a breakdown in trust between the district leadership and community, the article says. One speaker, a HPHS senior, asked Fornero not to attend graduation so as not to sully what should be a joyous occasion for the students.

Earlier this month, more than 100 students gathered before school to protest Swanson’s departure, saying he did not want to leave. Swanson has not spoken publically about his decision.
