District 113 parents took Superintendent George Fornero and the school board members to task at Monday’s meeting for what they consider bad leadership that has led to budget cuts and the resignation of popular Highland Park High School Principal Brad Swanson, according to an article in the Highland Park News.

Twenty speakers discussed what they see as a breakdown in trust between the district leadership and community, the article says. One speaker, a HPHS senior, asked Fornero not to attend graduation so as not to sully what should be a joyous occasion for the students.

Earlier this month, more than 100 students gathered before school to protest Swanson’s departure, saying he did not want to leave. Swanson has not spoken publically about his decision.

Flame wars detract from the real issue, gentle folk of the Patch. Can we just get back to saying "I told you so" regarding the referendum and the handling of its cash?

I told you so.

In a community that holds the education of their children in such high regard...the people of the community need to take the time to make sure things are going as they should, and if they are not... then hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

The local tax base simply can't support the empire building and waste of these taxing authorities. Declining enrollments don't justify these kinds of expenditures, nor do you entrust tens upon tens of millions more to those who've failed to maintain that which has been entrusted to them.
