Season Preview: Youth Hold Key to Giants’ Baseball Title Defense
Talented juniors join solid corps of returning seniors to lead Highland Park.

Last Year’s Highlights: Highland Park finished its conference season with a 12-4 record to win its third straight Central Suburban League North championship. The Giants fell in the Regional final to Mundelein.
Top Returning Giants: All-conference catcher Jason Goldstein and all-league outfielder Frank Malone will lead Highland Park this year. They will get help from pitcher/first baseman Chase Cunniff, pitcher Max Allen and pitcher/outfielder/first baseman Jake Rubin.

Leading Newcomers: Highland Park is also counting on newcomers Christian Biondi (pitcher/infield), Alec Van Cleve (catcher), Daniel Oversen (outfield/pitcher), Jordan Schwartz (infield), Adam Kaplan (infield), Ben Steicker (outfield/pitcher) and Brett Shimanovsky (pitcher/first base).
Season Outlook: Second year head coach Eddie Pieczynski (44-19 career record) sees the maturity of an “extremely young but talented” junior class as the Giants key to defending their league title.
