VIDEO: Deerfield Rolls Over Maine West

Brad Holway and Tyler Vajdic score for five of Deerfield's seven touchdowns in 49-7 win.

It took four plays and less than three minutes to score the first time they touched the ball Friday night.  They took the lead early and never looked back, rolling past Maine West 49-7 at Warrior Stadium.

Deerfield got their first score of the night on a 38 yard touchdown run from senior quarterback Brad Holway, who ran for another three yard touchdown and also threw for a 27 yard touchdown to Ryan Adkins.  The Warriors (3-3, 2-0) used two quick Holway touchdowns and a blocked punt that led to a two yard touchdown run from Tyler Vajdic to take a 21-0 lead before the end of the first quarter.

Vajdic added another touchdown run in the second quarter to give Deerfield a 28-0 halftime lead.  Vajdic carried the ball five times for 45 yards in that drive alone.

Jeremy Kritt made it 35-0 in the third quarter with a 12 yard touchdown run, which capped off a drive in which Kritt carried the ball 5 times for 52 yards.  Kritt and Vajdic split carries from the fullback position and never gave the Maine West (0-6, 0-2) defense a chance to rest.

"We're blessed that we have two kids at fullback who can run the ball hard," Deerfield Head Coach Steve Winiecki said. "We always say, we've got five kids that can run the ball, but only one football. So we just have to find ways to make sure everybody is getting their touches."

Holway's touchdown toss to Adkins extended the lead to 42-7 in the fourth quarter.  Brett Freedberg picked up a Maine West fumble and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown to end the scoring.

Jake Korbecki accounted for the only Maine West touchdown, a one yard quarterback keeper.  The Warriors also had two touchdowns called back because of penalties.
