South American Fusion Restaurant Pleases Palate

Fish Head, specializing in seafood, offers a variety of South American Cuisine in Highwood.

We weren’t sure what to expect when we headed to Fish Head Restaurante and Cantina Saturday night but left very happy with our dinner at Highwood’s newest restaurant at 810 Sheridan Road across from the Town of Ft. Sheridan.

Operated by Robert Viteri of Wilmette, Rodrigo Zurita of Skokie and Michael Viteri of Chicago, Fish Head offers South American fusion dining specializing in seafood. We stuck with that but there are also four meat dishes and three chicken entrees on the menu.

For us, dinner started with a crab ball with tropical marmalade and an empanada filled with shrimp and a creamy sauce. There was plenty of shrimp. It was followed by Chilean Sea Bass with plantains and shrimp flambé in cognac with sweet potatoes. There was rice with the entrees.

The portions were perfect in size. And, our dinner bill before tip was $52 with the sea bass topping the price list at $23. It is only one of two main course topping $20 on the menu.

One dish—either an appetizer or main course—which will be plentiful is ceviche. “We’ll have one with Peruvian fish, (another with) Ecuadorian shrimp and one with clams,” Viteri said.
