Highland Park Figure Skater, Partner Earn National Medal

Jacob Simon and Lindsay Weinstein placed fourth this week in the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championship's novice pairs competition.

A Highland Park High School junior and an eighth-grader from Buffalo Grove earned a national figure skating medal this week.

Jacob Simon of Highland Park and his partner, Lindsay Weinstein of Buffalo Grove, finished fourth in their division in the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championship in Boston on Monday, making the pair the pewter medalist in the novice pairs competition.

Weinstein, who attends Aptakisic Junior High School, began skating with Simon, a junior at Highland Park High School, in April. It was Weinstein’s first pairs skating experience. The two train at Twin Rinks in Buffalo Grove and are coached together by Jeremy Allen, Susie Wynne and Vlad Federov.

“They have practiced an hour and a half, five days per week, since the start of their partnership eight months ago. In addition, they practice individually approximately 12-15 hours a week and they do physical training twice a week,” Weinstein’s mother, Marcy, told Patch.

Weinstein and Simon finished first at the U.S. Figure Skating Midwestern Sectionals held in November in Michigan, earning them a place in this week’s championship competition.
