Fort2Base Hits Successful Stride on First Run
Highland Park residents join 785 participants to inaugurate 11.5-mile race.
Last Sunday morning, a new tradition was born in the northern suburbs of Chicago. The Fort2Base race, an 11.5-mile course, was inaugurated with runners starting at Fort Sheridan and ending at the Great Lakes Naval Station.
The route that equaled 10 nautical miles used the Green Bay Trail to get participants from Point A to Point B. Most of the runners hailed from Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana, though some came from as far away as Virginia and California. Among the 785 runners, three reside in Highwood and 26 in Highland Park.
There was a shorter 3.4-mile course that had participants stay within the naval station grounds.
