Giant Tennis Team Achieves Sectional Perfection

Highland Park High School girls' tennis team sweeps Sectional sending entire team to State Meet.

Highland Park High School’s girls’ tennis team had a nearly perfect performance winning its own Sectional Saturday and sending all of its players to the State Meet Thursday through Saturday in Buffalo Grove.

The most points a team could score in the competition was 36 and that is what the Giants did as Hersey took second with 19 and Deerfield third with 18,

The only Giants who lost lost to other Giants as Highland Park grabbed the top two spots in both singles and doubles. The singles and doubles champions did not lose a set. The top four finishers qualify for the State Finals.

Casey Frommer took the singles crown defeating teammate Jessica Rosenberg, 6-1, 6-0. Frommer dropped only 11 games in four matches. Rosenberg lost three games in three matches before running into Frommer.

In doubles, Nicole Berkman and Janine Cooper upended their fellow Giants, Lizzie Raab and Kimberly Rhum, 6-3, 6-2 to win the Sectional title. The champions dropped only four games in three matches en route to the finals. Raab and Rhum lost five games before the championship battle.
