Giants Place Third in York Tourney

Highland Park High School boys' basketball team tops Lyons to earn third-place honors in Jack Tosh Holiday Tournament.

Grabbing the lead early and building it through three quarters, the Highland Park High School boys’ basketball team defeated Lyons 53-39 today to take third place in the York Jack Tosh Holiday Basketball Tournament in Elmhurst.

Highland Park jumped on Lyons from the start taking a 17-12 lead at the end of the first period and building it to 32-19 at halftime after holding its foes to seven second-quarter points. The Giants limited the Lions to eight tallies in the third to take a 47-27 margin into the final period.

Hallvard Lundevll led a balanced Giant attack with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal. David Sachs added nine points, four assists and a steal while Jordan Krawitz contributed nine tallies, five boards and an assist.

After winning their first three games in their first venture into this tournament, the Giants dropped an overtime thriller to eventual champion Lake Forest in the semifinals Monday. Today’s win improved their record to 10-3 for the season with a Central Suburban League North Division contest on tap against Niles North at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at home.
