Giants Stay Undefeated in League Play

First quarter defense sets pace for Highland Park High School boys' basketball team in win over Maine East.

Holding Maine East to five first quarter points, Highland Park High School’s boys’ basketball team cruised past the Demons Friday at home, 57-38, to maintain its hold on first place in the Central Suburban League North Division race.

Highland Park jumped off to a 19-5 first quarter lead and kept the momentum going with 18-second period points to take a 33-17 lead into intermission. The Giants cruised the rest of the way. As a team, Highland Park made 60 percent of its field goal tries.

Jordan Krawitz paced the Giants with 14 points, five rebounds and a blocked shot while Luke Norcia added 13 tallies, dished out three assists, stole the ball three times and had a pair of rebounds. David Sachs chipped in with nine points as well as four assists, a pair of boards and a steal.

Tommy Sutker contributed seven points, five rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists while Hallvard Lundevall scored eight along with two assists and two rebounds.

The Giants are now 6-2 for the season and 3-0 in league play. They open competition in the York Holiday Tournament at 4:30 p.m. Thursday against Minooka in Elmhurst.
