Tightening its defense to hold St. Patrick’s to 12 second half points, the Highland Park High School boys’ basketball team notched a 49-35 victory Friday to advance to the quarterfinals of the York Jack Tosh Holiday Tournament in Elmhurst.

The Giants, who improved their record to 8-2 for the season, will play Palatine at 8 p.m. today in the quarterfinals with a victory putting them in a semifinal matchup at 8 p.m. Monday against the winner of today’s contest between Lake Forest and Stagg.

In Friday’s game, Highland Park spread out its scoring with three players—Luke Norcia, Tommy Sutker and Hallvard Lundevall—hitting double figures with 10 points each and David Sachs adding nine.

Things started slow for both team with the Shamrocks taking an 8-4 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 23-14 at halftime. After intermission, Highland Park’s defense took over holding St. Patrick’s to six third quarter points, taking a 32-29 lead by the end of the period.
The Giants limited their foe to six tallies again in the final stanza while adding 17 of their own.

On defense, Highland Park stole the ball eight times from the Shamrocks with Lundevall and Sachs grabbing three each. Sutker added seven rebounds to his scoring effort. Jordan Krawitz chipped in with seven boards as well while Jacob Iden dished out four assists.
