Giants Win Fifth Straight, Edge Spartans 14-7

Highland Park football team remains undefeated in conference.

Quick Recap: The ’s defense locked down the on Friday night and gave just enough room for Max Mordini and the Giant offense to squeeze by. The Giants scored twice, edging out the Spartans 14-7, and remaining undefeated in the conference.

Digest:  led a slow and steady offense through a toughly fought game against the Spartans, in which the senior converted 12 of his 17 passes for 108 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.  He spread the ball around to four different receivers and he and junior helped ice the game with a 10-play, 5:37 drive.  But the defense is what really shined as Glenbrook North used the spread offense and threw more than 30 times and dropped back nearly 60 times, as senior quarterback chose to keep the ball when he didn’t throw. It was an offense the Giants had not seen yet this year, and they adapted beautifully.

Player(s) of the Game: Senior defensive back and the Giant defense, there’s no question about it. Bricker not only had 7 tackles, he intercepted Petty twice. The rest of the defense got after Petty and never made him feel comfortable. Of the 33 throws Petty attempted, he was hurried 6 times and hit 5 times. He was also sacked twice. They kept Petty’s completion percentage at 45 percent, and never let him complete a pass longer than 30 yards.
