Sachs Pushes Giants Into Semifinals

Highland Park High School boys' basketball team edges Palatine to earn semifinal berth against Lake Forest in York Holiday Tournament.

David Sachs did a little bit of everything and a lot of playing to lead Highland Park High School’s boys’ basketball team to a 44-42 win over Palatine Saturday to advance to the semifinals of the York Jack Tosh Holiday Tournament in Elmhurst.

Sachs played all 32 minutes of the back and forth contest leading the Giants with 17 points on 62.5 percent shooting from the field and a perfect night at the free throw line. He also dished out four assists, stole the ball twice—the team’s only thefts—and grabbed four rebounds.

The victor improved the Giants season record to 9-2 and earned them a semifinal contest against Lake Forest at 8 p.m. Monday. The winner plays for the championship Tuesday.

In its quarterfinal contest, Highland Park finished the first quarter deadlocked with Palatine, 11-11, before taking a five-point lead, 19-14, at intermission. Palatine erased the Giant edge in the third period taking a 30-29 lead at the end of three. The Giants came back in the final stanza to secure the victory.

Hallvard Lundevall was the only other Giant to score in double figures with 10 points along with two rebounds. Luke Norcia added eight tallies as well as a with a pair of assists while Jordan Krawitz contributed six points and four boards.
