VIDEO: Giants Come Up Short Against Warriors

Two homeruns weren't enough for Highland Park Thursday.

Final Score: 5  9

Records: Highland Park (11-11, 5-4)  Deerfield (7-12, 4-5)

Quick Summary: Highland Park jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead thanks to a two-run home run by Christian Biondi in the top of the first inning. Deerfield's Jon Smirles responded with a two-run blast of his own in the bottom of the first inning to bring Deerfield back within one. Highland Park then took a 5-3 lead after an RBI single off the bat of Frank Maione in the fourth inning. Deerfield came back to tie the game at five and took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ben Pineless delivered the go-ahead, two-run single to put the Warriors ahead 7-5 and they would lead 9-5 after the fifth.  Aidan Epstein closed things out for the Warriors, pitching two scoreless innings to preserve the win.

Quick Stats:  Deerfield was led by senior catcher Jon Smirles, who went 3-3 with a 2-run homerun. Highland Park junior Christian Biondi went 2-3 with two home runs and three RBIs. Deerfield pitcher Jesse Katz pitched five innings, giving up five runs on 10 hits. For the Giants, Max Allen pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up seven runs on six hits.
