As temperatures have hovered around the 90-degree mark much of the week for the Chicago area, many area residents have turned to local pools and lakes to cool off.

And it should come as no surprise, the high temperatures have caused a rise in lake temperatures.

Temperatures at beaches along Lake Michigan in Chicago reached as high as 78 degrees on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The average temperature for Lake Michigan this time of year is 70 degrees, according to the Daily Herald.
At Waukegan Beach this week, the water temperature reached a high of 76 degrees, reported the Daily Herald
