Highland Park Mayors Celebrate Fourth of July

Current Mayor Nancy Rotering was joined by three former mayors at the city's Independence Day parade.

In keeping with the city's theme of "A Look Back in Time,"  invited former Mayors Ray Geraci, Dan Pierce and  to serve together as honorary Grand Marshals of the Highland Park July 4th parade.

Former Mayor Ray Geraci held office from 1970 to 1975 and from 1995 to 1999, . Former Mayor Daniel Pierce held office from 1987 to 1995 and again from 1999 to 2003.  Former Mayor Michael Belsky held office from 2003 to 2011.

"Bringing this group together represents all of the civic leaders who helped shape our past and set our course for the future," Rotering said.

Special thanks to for taking the photo and Patch reader and for sending Patch the photo of the current and former mayors. Feel free to upload your own photos from yesterday's celebration!

Wow, when did Hell Freeze Over?!
Very classy of Mayor Rotering to include our former mayors in the parade AND of Michael Belsky to pose with her. Let's hope this "love fest" last awhile.

When reading my story above you probably are wondering why I didn't use customary paragraphs inRead More composing this article. The fact is I did! However, those AOL/Patch software designers who recently put this new format together didn't allow for paragraphs, boldfacing and some other essential typographical aids that make stories more readable. I have no idea why. Hopefully this oversight will soon be corrected. Ed Collins, Contributor

Ed, I completely agree with your format comment - eliminating paragraphs and other aids makesRead More articles much less readable. Jacob, why the change? It isn't like you have to spend more money on printing pages. Please address.
