The Evening Gourmet Farmers Market Returns to Highwood

The information below comes from the City of Highwood.

With Summer right around the corner, Highwood, Illinois is gearing up for its weekly Evening Gourmet Farmers Market, held Wednesdays from 4-9pm, June 5th to September 4th.

In its fifth year, this one-of-a-kind Farmers Market is spending its second year in beautiful Everts Park, 130 Highwood Avenue, to accommodate its 60+ vendors and large amounts of attendees every week that mingle, shop, dine, drink and dance in the great outdoors! This year’s market will showcase a wide range of fresh produce directly from Highwood’s partnering McHenry County farmers, who will also be growing and supplying the 32,000 pumpkins for Pumpkin Fest.

The market will also feature a smorgasbord of gourmet cheeses, homemade pastas, baked goods, assortments of artisan pastries, jams, honey, flavored oils and sauces, and an array of dining options such as Italian, Mexican, American, French and Irish delicacies. Guests are able to enjoy dinner and a wide variety of cocktails, provided by local on-site pubs and restaurants, while exploring the market and listening to different live music acts each week.

Highwood’s Evening Gourmet Farmers Market is the perfect atmosphere for families, with plenty of children’s activities, including a playground, bouncy houses, henna tattoos, and more. New this year is the addition of weekly pony rides and a petting zoo! And, in its second year, Art in the Park will bring back an array of unique local vendors, showcasing art and jewelry.

“Our Farmers Market is unlike any other. It has become a weekly family festival with live music, dancing, dining and celebrating under the stars,” says Eric Falberg, the City of Highwood’s Fourth Ward Alderman and Chairman of Special Events.

Encouraging the community to “make a night of it,” Everts Park has proven to be the perfect location to hold Highwood’s ever-expanding Evening Gourmet Farmers Market. Last season, the market moved from City Hall Park to Everts Park to offer more open green space, room for additional vendors, two adjacent parking lots (library and post office), a beautiful gazebo for live music, and more room to enjoy the entire experience.

A Farmers Market of this caliber is hard to find. With its live concert series from 5:30-8pm, and “Ravinia Festival-like” atmosphere, families are encouraged to set up their picnic blankets and chairs and enjoy the evening in the park, dining on local goodies and jamming to the sounds of great local bands. This vibrant market has become a tradition for friends and family seeking great food, spirits and entertainment for a fun summer night outdoors.
