Sunset Foods, The Greater Midwest Foodways Alliance and Thyme in the Kitchen Proudly Present The Heirloom Recipe Contest

Recipe submissions are now being accepted for The Heirloom Recipe Contest.  Sponsored by Sunset Foods, The Greater Midwest Foodways Alliance and Thyme in the Kitchen, The Heirloom Recipe Contest seeks submissions of your best from-scratch family heirloom recipe from before 1950 that would be suitable for a family or community dinner.  To see examples of past winners from the Greater Midwest Foodways’ State Fair competition, go to greatermidwestfoodways.com, and click on “State Fairs." 

To enter your family’s favorite recipe, visit your local Sunset Foods store and pick up an application at the Customer Service Desks or through the Thyme in the Kitchen office.  Applications can also be downloaded and printed by clicking here. Fill out the application and include a brief story that explains:

Who passed the recipes down to you

Ethnicity, if relevant

Number of years the recipe has been in your family and

Any other interesting “icing on the cake” tidbits

Please send or drop off all application materials, along with a $10 registration fee (checks made payable to Sunset Foods), to:

All applications must be postmarked or dropped off in person by Monday, October 21st,  2013 for consideration in this year’s contest.  Based on an initial screen of applications, final participation will be limited to up to 15 contestants per category.  Finalists will be notified by Monday, October 28th.

If selected, contestants should bring their prepared dish to the Sunset Foods in Lake Forest on Saturday, November 2nd, 2013 for a tasting and evaluation by an esteemed panel of food writers and food professionals.  In addition to endless bragging rights, winners in each category will receive:

First prize:

$75 Sunset Foods gift card

$25 Thyme in the Kitchen Cooking Class gift certificate

1-year membership to the Greater Midwest Foodways Alliance

Second prize:

$50 Sunset Foods gift card

Third prize:

$25 Sunset Foods gift card
