Five Apps for the Fourth of July

Use your smart phone to help celebrate the Fourth of July.

We here at Web2Carz, an online magazine based in Highland Park, try to bring our readers unique, timely and hopefully interesting information. With the big fireworks holiday upon us, I've decided to share some cool information one of our writers (David Merline) came up with about apps for the "Fourth."

Independence Day is upon us: the day we Americans celebrate the anniversary of our liberation from the British by searing animal flesh and consuming mass quantities of beverages. And if you’re one of the smartphoned masses for whom no activity is complete without an accompanying app, you’re in luck. We’ve compiled a list of the five best Fourth of July apps so that both you and your iPhone can do our Founding Fathers proud on this most patriotic summer holiday.

Declaration of Independence (FREE)
This app gives you easy access to the document without which you would not be getting sunburned and drunk on 7/4. This free app features not only the entire text of this hallowed document, but a bio of each and every person who signed it, from John Adams to George Wythe. We hold this truth to be self-evident: If you don’t download this app you’re a commie rat.

Grill-It! ($0.99)
If you don’t already have the menu for your Independence Day cookout planned, this is the app for you. For just $0.99 you can have easy access to a veritable constitutional congress of grilling recipes, all sorted by ingredient. So whether it’s yogurt-marinated grilled chicken halves or grilled soy and honey-glazed chicken wings, there’s a recipe to show you how to grill it.

United States Quizzle (FREE)
Lest the true meaning of this holiday get lost in an orgy of eating, drinking, and shooting explosives into the sky, you can always bring your backyard party to a screeching halt by busting out this handy quiz to test your guests’ knowledge of our beloved country.

Swim Guide (FREE)
When the weather outside is frightfully hot and you need to cool off with a dip in the water, use this handy free app to find the best beaches in the area. Find the best beaches, get directions, and even get real-time water quality information with this app, so you don’t end up spending the Fifth of July suffering from a bad case of Escherichia coli.

FireWorks (FREE)
Let’s face it, we don’t all have family and friends to celebrate with, and we don’t all have access to kick-ass fireworks displays on the holiday. So if you’re housebound on the Fourth and you don’t have a TV, or if you’re just a really sad case who really has absolutely nothing better to do, the FireWorks app lets you have your own fireworks show all by your sad, lonely, pathetic self.
