Mitzvah Project Helps Others Celebrate Passover

Nikki Lieberman handed out boxes of seder supplies to the needy in Chicago.

With the Jewish holiday of Passover beginning Monday, Highland Park Patch spotlights someone in the community who used the occasion to do something nice for others.

Last Saturday, my friends from North Shore Congregation Israel, Maot Chitam and  I went to a building in Chicago and passed out boxes of food to families that otherwise would not have a traditional Passover meal.

The box included everything a family would need to honor Passover. My family has done this before, and for my Mitzvah project, I decided to encourage my friends to come and see how great it is.

It made me feel proud that I made the day for some of these people a little brighter. One woman gave us $5 to say thank you, and when we said no, she said, "Please, take this. It comes from my heart."

At the end of the day I felt so good  to have helped and realized how blessed I am.

"My hopes are that doing good deeds will spread throughout the community in a ripple effect. It starts at home."
