Championship Week Arrives in Highland Park

Highland Park High School football, tennis and cross country teams primed for championship opportunities.

Will it be a time of championship trophies in Highland Park this week?

That is what the Highland Park High School football, tennis and cross country teams hope for as the week unfolds.

The Giant football team slipped by Niles North Friday, 21-20, Friday to remain unbeaten in Central Suburban League North Division play to set up a season finale with Glenbrook North at 7 p.m. Friday at Wolters Field. The Spartans are also undefeated in conference play. The winner will be crowned champion.

In tennis, the Giants swept through their Sectional to qualify the entire team for the State Meet Thursday through Saturday in Buffalo Grove.

Fresh off its Central Suburban League championship cross country performance Saturday, Highland Park’s boys’ will compete for the Regional Title at 2 p.m. Saturday in Libertyville. The girls’ will take part in the Regional at that time as well. Lake County champion Angel Estrada added the league crown to his credits at Saturday’s meet.
