Bid Farewell to Bertucci's This Weekend

The Highwood eatery is closing after 23 years. Also of interest this weekend, farmers' markets and a cooking class.

The 23-year-old Highwood restaurant is serving its final meal Sunday night. Grab dinner and say goodbye to a North Shore mainstay.

This is the best time of year for the farmers’ market, in my opinion. Check out this map to find one near you this weekend. (Deerfield and Lake Forest both have ones on Saturday.) Booths are bursting with summer fruits and veggies — the corn has been particularly good recently. Stock up on Saturday morning from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Metra commuter lot on Deerfield Road and eat well all weekend.

After you stock up at the farmers’ market, head to the Chicago Botanic Gardens for a cooking demonstration from chef Ivan Yuen at the Shanghai Terrace at the Peninsula Hotel in Chicago. He’ll use ingredients from the garden in his demonstration at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.
