Highland Park Merchants Await Final Push

Heading into the final shopping weekend before Christmas, Highland Park merchants are ready to help customers with their last minute needs.

Some are offering bargains while others are concentrating on service. “For us it will be about doing what we do the other 361 days of the year (we are open),” Uncle Dan’s owner Brent Weiss said. “We’re going to be the Sunset Foods of camping. We determine our customers’ expectations and exceed them.”

At Royal Appointments, owner Debra Brody hopes to see more of the discount coupons mailed to local residents by the Downtown Business Alliance. She is going out of her way to communicate with customers.

“We sent out an email blast to our customer list,” Brody said.”We’re hoping people will use the 15 percent off coupon in the Highland Park Downtown Gift Guide.”

City officials are also encouraging people to shop local. “Highland Park should be your destination for last minute gift shopping,” Mayor Nancy Rotering said. “We have everything for all interests.”
