The best way to combat this is for those smaller households to sign up for ComEd's RRTP program --Read More which is the Residential Real Time Pricing. ComEd's Capacity Charge will be based on your actual historical usage. For more information on how the Capacity Charge is calculated, go read this document on the RRTP program (Specifically Pages 10 and 11): https://www.comed.com/Documents/customer-service/rates-pricing/real-time-pricing/RRTPProgramGuide.pdf Here in Highland Park and other Northshore communities. Our voters passed a referendum in April 2012 to replace ComEd's Standard Rate with a discount rate negotiated and provided by MC2 Energy Services. MC2 basically purchases wholesale electricity based on future projections and the forecasts of the actual cost of the electricity -- and passes those discounts to the customers with a small mark-up. This does not apply to the ComEd "capacity charge". For the best rate reduction, and lowest cost in the overall bill, I suggest people switch to the ComEd RRTP -- even if you do not switch your energy usage. ComEd's RRPT will charge you the actual electricity rate at the actual hour. Not a hedged rate as MC2 does. Smaller homes can certainly save much more than the electricity cost by reducing other charges such as the capacity charge and taxes based on ComEd's standard Capacity Charge formula.

I agree 100%......70% increase in income tax plus all this LLC tax nonsense makes me want to move toRead More Texas! Why stay here?
Stuart Senescu May 24, 2013 at 09:25 pm
Gov Perry just rejected hundreds of millions of Fed dollars (I think about a billion dollars) toRead More supplement the Texas hospital and health care system so that Texas wouldn't have to expand services to poor people. The Texas hospital association was in favor of the state accepting the federal money. So people will show up in the ER system, which is the most expensive and inefficient way of treating non-life threatening medical problems. Hospitals will treat these people at a cost to be added to their overhead, which means the costs to patients with funds or insurance will go up and that will spread those costs to middle and upper class Texans. More subjectively that kind of decision reflects the Republican concept of every man for himself, not 'help thy neighbor'. Move to Texas, enjoy the droughts, hurricanes, tornados, poor overall health care, and mediocre educational accomplishments.

David Greenberg: People have every right to expect a nice experience when they're spending theirRead More money for a meal out. My point was that all too often I see customers rudely demanding things rather than simply politely requesting. If someone patronized your business wouldn't you expect a civil conversation about needs and expectations rather than someone pointing and "demanding" you give it to them? All this dialogue is really an aside to the discussion topic which is the restaurant business in Highland Park and why so many are failing.

Now that is a shocker. As stated before, just maybe a customer driven rather than "ChefRead More Driven" restaurant would have had more success. The real key here was not that Highland Park did not get the concept(s) or that we do not like good food and an occasional great burger but rather that we do indeed like good food and the occasional great burger:)

The Patch should partner with Moraine Valley Community College's Corporate, Community and ContinuingRead More Education division: www.morainevalley.edu/ccce. This arm of the College offers workforce reentry programs, customized training and more all at extremely affordable rates; plus the College will also assist with grant funds available for customized training for positions. CCCE also works with small business owners to update their business plan, offers business counseling and more. Reach out to the Dean of the program, Albert Lewis or Eda Schrimple - 708-974-5714 as they and their team are ready and able to help small businesses succeed!

They both needed to be gluten free, Trace's did't contain gluten. The other did so i could not try.Read More I wasn't crazy about the maple macadamia. Way too fattening. Plus macadamia's are high in fat anyway. I think it needed something else & could have tried to make less fattening!
Elise Sumner May 20, 2013 at 12:02 am
We tasted both, and it's Swirtle, hands down. The Maple Macadamia went right down the disposal.
Dawn May 20, 2013 at 03:58 am
Overall, I preferred Trace's, but neither one would set off a craving for me. Penn's ice cream wasRead More ok but lacked enough vanilla flavor to me. Turtle candy normally contains pecans and I think it would have been a nice addition his ice cream. The "swirl" was more like hard chunks of overly salted chocolate and a little much for my taste. Trace's was good, but a salted caramel swirl would have been nice and maybe balanced some of the sweetness. The nuts should have been chopped a little too, because most of mine were almost whole. A macadamia nut brittle may have been better than just macadamia nuts. Both very worthy causes and both men are class acts, in my opinion.
