I'm glad justice was served. question is will Carly Russo get equal punishment for killing a 5 yearRead More old????

Good Call Jordan! I'm interested myself. The way the laws are written for her situation, underRead More normal circumstances she should only get 4- 15 years. I have never heard of anyone involved in a DUI crash involving a fatality gets life in prison, however killing someone with a gun in cold blood will get you life!! What is the difference?? If you are arming yourself with a 6000- 8000 lb. moving object under the influence, and decide to drive around. The DUI laws needs to change, for example; If you kill someone under the influence, there is a mandatory minimum of 30 years to be served. It would make some think twice, others who did not heed the warning would be removed off the road for good! Obviously, the liquor companies would be against this.. Sadly, It is all about $$$$$

Mikey Swenson, I am aware of the freedom of speech, but could you please try to be more sensitive ofRead More others or at least get your facts straight before jumping to conclusions? You are projecting a false image of my brother. I am aware you don't know me, but some of this stuff hurts to read. I don't mean to single you out, but as his sister, I feel obligated to say something. Colin did not touch any other drugs (or alcohol), nor did he sell drugs to "countless teenagers," nor were there "lives ruined by Colin Nutter's drugs." I talked to Colin 2 weeks before it happened on a home visit from college. His only objective was to help his "friends" looking for marijuana if he happened to have the resources at the time, and his friends did the same for him. As a 23 year old and recent college graduate, I can assure you that is something plenty of young adults Colin's age have done. Young adults who are non-violent, intelligent, and successful. Does it make it right? No, but it by no means makes them bad people. Who doesn't make questionable decisions at the college age? You live and you learn. Also, any person who gets shot in the head, murdered, robbed, their cars stolen, and their house burglarized is a victim; regardless of who they are or what they've done.

"Concerned Parent", i hope you know what of you speak, and when something happens in yourRead More home with your kids we can say the same to you. Kids are young and think they are invincible and they are not. I do not believe for a minute what Colin was doing meant he should be worried about getting killed and it should have never happened. Colin could have been any of our sons, and if your family is so perfect good for you. At least I have the balls to put my name on this post, and should anything happen in your family as tragic I would be just as sympathetic to you as I am to the families involved in this - have some humanity cause there but for the grace of G-d go yourself.

My heart goes out to the Nutter family. I can't imagine how painful this is. It takes a lot ofRead More strength and courage for his sister to be reading these things and defending her brothers memory. I don't doubt for a minute that Colin was a nice kid with a bad habit that was unfortunate enough to become involved with Ben Schenk. This was a shocking story for me. I was friends with Ben in high school. I never expected he would do something like this.

Carly Rousso will never spend a day in jail. Her attorneys will continue to delay, and, since theRead More victim's family have already settled the civil suit out of court, there is no hurry for any trial. At some point, she will be offered a plea bargain, spend a year on probation, and spend the rest of her life laughing at the chumps who let her get by with murder. If she goes to trial, she'll walk because a jury of her Highland Park peers will feel just as entitled as she does. The attitude among her peers is likely this: "What were those uneducated peasants doing in Highland Park anyway?" In the United States, there is no Justice. There is the Law. There is a huge gap between the two. This gap is multiplied when the family of the murderer has money to burn to keep their precious little treasure out of jail. Finally, I wonder if her 24-hour curfew is still in effect and if it includes random urinalyses just to see if she's staying clean.

Deerfield Neighbor, if you want to talk about legalizing marijuana, talk to your stateRead More representative. You have no place saying that if pot was legal this man would still be alive. Shame on you. My condolences to the family of this victim of unnecessary violence.

I've read a couple of comments about "poor old Colin Nutter", which I found surprising.Read More Sure, normally, the death of a 20 year old is tragic. But, Colin Nutter was killed while selling drugs to two teenagers and another 20 year old. Doesn't that make Colin Nutter a drug dealer? How many other 17 year olds has he sold drugs to? How many 15 year olds? How many 13 year olds? How many Highland Park parents reading this are wondering if Colin Nutter sold drugs to their kids? Does Colin Nutter have any prior arrests for drugs or violence? The picture the media runs in these articles was taken when Colin Nutter was a 15yo freshman in high school. That was five years ago Did he look so young and innocent as a 20 year old drug dealer? Normally, when I read about a drug dealer getting shot during a drug deal, I don't feel too sorry for him. I saw that one reader has set up a "relief fund" of sorts for Colin Nutter's family. What about setting up a relief fund for the victims of Colin Nutter - the ones whose lives have been ruined by Colin Nutter's drugs.

@Deerfield neighbor. If pot was legal Nutter could be killed by Schenk or another insane for sellingRead More pills or heroin.

Alan, I don't see anything in the post you are commenting on that advocates legalization ofRead More marijuana at all.

"It (MJ) results in higher incidences of cancer, hospital/healthcare costs, and other relatedRead More expenditures that are often laid at the foot of the nanny state. Get a clue and leave your deluded ego or self-congratulatory crap for someone else who isn't educated and doesn't have a doctorate and 2 other masters degrees (like me)." Are you for real? I have an MD and I never heard about MJ and cancer. Yes you can find some links on the internet showing it can cause testicular cancer, or greater incidence of lung cancer if you also smoke tobacco. What doesn't have health risks? Sunshine? Radon gas in your basement? Driving in your car? Alcohol? It's all about odds my friends. And if you choose to use a recreational intoxicant (safely and responsibly of course) marijuana is probably a much better choice than the ethanol in your Pinot Grigio and Bud Light.

mr q, cliffhanger, deerfield neighbor and ak you have shown and proved why drugs remain illegal. IRead More suppose you all are toking up and putting something in the air that gives you confidence to post such nonsensical bullshit. Sober up and take a look at the issue at hand, a kid is dead and 3 more lost and gone forever and it is in regards to what you are probably smoking tonight. Perhaps natural marijuana is a cure for medical issues, I am sure the world has not seen natural marijuana in centuries( I'm still looking up THS or TCH or THC) that is added to it. Best advice, sober up, get a grip and try to get in touch with what is really going on here. You all are the poster people( or maybe parents) for not legalizing drugs. remember we lead by example,if you are twisted so will be your kids!!!!!

Move where? No place is safer than Highland Park. This is s terrible crime, but not random.TheRead More perps will not make ball and will never set foot in Highland Park again. Hi Zuzu, You are correct that ordinarily we would not name a minor like this. However, the linkRead More that we use to the NBC story about the 16-year-old goes to an on-camera interview with her where she's named, so we kept her name in since it's widely available at this point. But I'm removing it now from the Patch story. If people want to click through for more information, they can. Thanks for your comment, Emily

Enforcement of the HP cell phone ban is a farce. At least 1/3 of all visible drivers are yacking,Read More texting below the dashboard, or wearing headphones. To date, I've only heard the vague rumor of one person being ticketed for cell phone use.
