Voters Decide 10th District Race Today

Candidates in 10th District, State Senate contest vote and greet voters.

After more than a year of campaigning and millions of dollars spent, the voters of the 10th Congressional District will decide today if Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) will continue to represent them or the job will go to Democratic Challenger Brad Schneider of Deerfield. Voters will also choose the whether West Deerfield Township Supervisor Julie Morrison, a Democrat, or Republican Highland Park pediatrician Arie Friedman will succeed retiring state Sen. Susan Garrett (D-Lake Forest). Earlier: Candidates Seek Votes as Campaign Nears End As soon as the polls close at 7 p.m. today, Patch will start posting results until there is a winner in all races. State Senate Candidates Campaign in Deerfield

Deerfield was a hub of activity Wednesday for the two candidates who hope to succeed retiring state Sen. Susan Garrett (D-Lake Forest). Both the Republican candidate, Highland Park pediatrician Arie Friedman, and his Democratic opponent, West Deerfield Township Supervisor Julie Morrison, were in the Village. Earlier: Morrison, Friedman Intensify Attacks Morrison did herself some concrete good. She voted. When asked who she voted for, she answered with a smile. She does like the idea of early voting and hopes to see it expanded. “I’ll be very busy election day talking to voters so I decided to vote today,” Morrison said. “Early voting is a great idea. I’d like to see it open at least one week night and possibly some hours on Sunday.” …

RB, as to your point “[f]alling for Pension reform being more important than social advances is wrong”, I respectively disagree. A combination of spending cuts and an increase/rejiggering of tax burdens is probably necessary. The financial difficulties in Illinois are leading to businesses starting to either (i) move out of Illinois (Jimmie Johns) or (ii) locate new facilities outside of Illinois…   more ›

With the Nov. 6 general election nine days away and early voting into its second week, candidates for the United States Congress and the Illinois State Senate spent the weekend meeting voters and encouraging people to cast ballots. Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) spent much of the weekend on a bus tour of the 10th Congressional District visiting restaurants, shopping centers and other places where people congregate while his Democratic challenger, Deerfield’s Brad Schneider, motivating people at rallies to vote early. Dold, Schneider Contest Goes Live Sunday

League of Women Voters’ forum is only face to face meeting between Schneider and Dold in 10th District. General Assembly and Lake County Board candidates debate too.

Voters who want to get a close personal look at Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) and his Democratic opponent, Brad Schneider of Deerfield, debating will get their only chance at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Lake Forest High School east campus auditorium. The forum, co sponsored by the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Lake Forest/Lake Bluff, the LWV of Highland Park/Highwood and the LWV of Deerfield in coordination with Patch and the Union League Club of Chicago will also feature candidates for the Illinois General Assembly and the Lake County Board. Morrison Places Emphasis on Job Creation; Sumption Adds in Fiscal Discipline, Education

  The 29th Senate District, which encompasses Deerfield, Highland Park, Glencoe, Glenview, Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Niles and Northbrook, has a choice in the March 20 primary between two Democratic candidates: the current Deerfield Township supervisor and a Lake Bluff business consultant with a business, finance and governmental background. Julie Morrison, of Deerfield, has been the West Deerfield Township supervisor for 15 years.
