Heat Advisory in Effect for Highland Park

It might feel hotter than 105 degrees Monday.

Temperatures are expected to exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit Monday, according to a severe weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service.  Humidity is expected to produce heat indices in excess of 105 degrees Monday. As a result, the City of Highland Park recommends residents stay in air-conditioned spaces, stay out of direct sun and drink lots of water, according to a news release issued Monday morning. The city is also offering two cooling centers for residents who need to escape the extreme temperatures. The Recreation Center of Highland Park will be open to residents as a cooling center from 5 a.m. till 9:45 p.m. Monday. The Highland Park Police Department will also serve as a cooling center and is available 24 hours per day. …

Tuesday's forecast is sunny in the upper 80s: not the best day to go without air conditioning. Though ComEd is working to restore power to the 240,000 North Shore customers who experienced outages after Monday's storm, thousands remain with no electricity in Highland Park. As of Tuesday morning, 4,151 ComEd customers in Highland Park were still without power. ComEd anticipates the restoration will take days, according to a City of Highland Park news release.
