Deerfield Teens Charged In Highland Park Burglary

Two 17-year-olds have been charged as adults for breaking into a Highland Park home with a gun on Thursday.

Deerfield residents Joseph J. Mahoney and Joshua S. Norris, both 17, were charged as adults for Thursday's burglary in the 3000 block of Parkside in Highland Park. Earlier:  Police Apprehend Suspected Burglar, Find Gun At 7:22 a.m. on Thursday, the Highland Park police received a call that a male wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants was spotted in a Highland Park home by the homeowners, with what appeared to be a rifle. He fled on foot, and was last seen heading north towards the park area. No one was injured. At 9:19 a.m., a Lake Forest officer assisting the Highland Park police located Mahoney in the area of Half-Day Road and Ridge Road, according to Highland Park Deputy Police Chief Dave Schwarz. Police Apprehend Suspected Burglar, Find Gun

Hours after an early morning break-in, police have found a person who fits the description of the offender, and a long gun nearby.

Police have apprehended a suspect in Thursday morning's armed burglary in the 3000 block of Parkside. Earlier: Possibly Armed Burglar Flees Scene on Foot The offender, who was described as a male wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants (possibly jeans), was spotted in a Highland Park home at 7:22 a.m. by the homeowners, with what appeared to be a rifle. He fled on foot, and was last seen heading north towards the park area. No one was injured. Possibly Armed Burglar Flees Scene on Foot

Police continue to search for the offender after responding to reported burglary in the 3000 block of Parkside.

Update: Police have apprehended a suspect in Thursday's early-morning burglary. A Lake Forest officer assisting the Highland Park police located a person fitting the description of the offender in the area of Half-Day Road and Ridge Road, according to Highland Park Deputy Police Chief Dave Schwarz. Officers found a long gun lying along the roadway a short distance away in the 1500 block of Half-Day Road. Read the whole story here. Actually it's not registered with the ATF forever. I believe that those instant background check results are destroyed after 24-48 hours. The paperwork at the gun store has to be kept for 7 -10 years (I've forgotten the exact amount), and if you privately transfer a firearm to someone - you have to keep a record of it for 10 years - you get their name, address, FOID card number, and serial number…   more ›

Three Charged With Residential Burglary

The following arrest information was supplied by the Highland Park police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Residential burglary Marco Barete, 21, of the 2500 block of Green Bay Road, Highland Park, Patrick Castellanos, 19, of the 1600 block of Shermer Road, Northbrook and Alan Rodriguez, 19, of the 2700 block of Lauretta Place, Highland Park were arrested and charged with residential burglary after police responded to a homeowner’s report that there were three individuals inside his residence attempting to remove items. The incident occurred in the 2700 block of Port Clinton Road, Highland Park. Barete, Castellanos and Rodriguez were transported to bond court at 18 North County Street, Waukegan, Illinois pending court dates. Man Arrested for Highland Park Burglaries

Cary, Ill. resident linked to multiple burglaries found hiding in Highland Park home.

Highland Park Police arrested a 32-year-old Cary, Ill. resident for residential burglary on March 6. According a news release issued by the Highland Park Police Department, the police responded to an alarm at an empty house in the 1400 block of Waverly Road at 2 a.m. on March 6. Officers found two broken door windows leading into the home. Once inside, the officers found Justin Giles hiding with his labrador retriever on the second floor.  Officers later found Giles' silver 2007 BMW in the 2500 block of Sheridan Road -- two miles away from the Waverly home.  A search of his vehicle and statements Giles made at the time of his arrest have linked him to a string of burglaries throughout the night of March 6 in Highland Park, including the …

Weekend Burglary Spree Hits Highland Park, Deerfield

Three homes hit in two suburbs last weekend.

A string of residential burglaries struck Highland Park and Deerfield last weekend marking an increase in burglaries along the North Shore. One attempted and one successful burglary were reported in Highland Park and another burglary was reported in Deerfield, according to the Highland Park and Deerfield police departments. "Throughout Northern Illinois there's been an increase in residential burglaries," said Highland Park Police Commander Jerry Cameron. He said the increase is "not uncommon" during the holiday season. The FBI released its 2010 Uniform Crime Report Monday. The north and northwest suburbs served by the Patch sites in Cook and Lake counties are listed below in charts for violent crimes and property crimes. The data reflect communities that reported crime statistics for all 12 months of 2010. Due to a change in state reporting methods, Illinois statistics from 2010 cannot be compared to 2009 statistics, according to the FBI. Glenview, Niles, Wilmette and Glencoe were not included in the FBI's release of data.
