Meet Pokémon’s 10-Year-Old National Champ

Deerfield’s Xander Pero is headed to California for the world tournament.

It didn’t take Xander Pero very long to become a skilled Pokémon player. One year after he started competing, the 10-year-old was crowned Pokémon’s junior division national champion.  “When coming into nationals, I didn’t think I would win it,” the Deerfield youngster said about the tournament in Indianapolis. “I was just coming because I had a paid trip and it’s fun to play Pokémon and spend a weekend on it.” Earlier this month 1,500 players gathered in Indianapolis for the 2011 Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) U.S. National Championship. City Park Grill Owner Talks Food and Cards

Ted Holleb discusses how his year's in the restaurant business helps him run City Park Grill.

City Park Grill co-owner Ted Holleb has been in the restaurant industry for 27 years. His career includes stints at Maggiano's, Stir Crazy, The Claim Company and the now-shuttered  Timbers Char House and Forty One North. For the last three years Holleb has helped run City Park Grill with his brother, Michael, and friend Arnie Krause. While the upscale American spot has become a downtown Highland Park staple, Holleb says changes are in the works.
