Bites Nearby: City Park Grill

One of the few Highland Park restaurants open during the blizzard is the focus of Patch's newest feature.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Highland Park Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice: City Park Grill -- Open since 2007, City Park Grill is a classic American restaurant with a traditional menu and ambiance. The atmosphere is both comfortable and classy, with seating areas large enough to accommodate large groups and swanky jazz music playing in the background. The beer and wine selection is fantastic, the Cosmpolitans are deliciously strong and the extensive menu features a growing gluten-free selection. If you head over at lunch, watch out for the canasta players. 1783 Saint …

Things To Do In Highland Park This Weekend

Stay indoors, have a drink and listen to music this weekend.

This weekend, enjoy free music, try some different beers and chill with some adorable puppies. Here's your list of what's going on in Highland Park. Gifts A bottle of whiskey is a pretty solid gift. It's even better when it's a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label. On Friday, Binny's will engrave personalized messages on your whiskey gift from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., making a really good gift into a great one. The cost is the bottle but the etching is FREE. Music The arts are alive and well in downtown Highland Park this weekend with two musical performances. First, catch the sparse, wistful jazz of Jeff Libman on Friday at City Park Grill from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. If you're in the mood for blues, head to Cafe Central at 7 p.m. on Friday …

City Park Grill Proves Gluten Free Can Taste Great

In addition to the solid drinks and stand-out salads, the gluten free menu has a lot to offer.

When the owners of City Park Grill began working on their menu, they based most of it off of the dishes served at their previous restaurant, the now shuttered Forty One North. A growing gluten free menu sports dishes so delicious even people without dietary restrictions love them. They also decided to add some high end steaks to go with the fine dining décor, helping to make City Park Grill a place for special occasions. The bar area offers a more casual setting. A pair of flat screen TVs hangs behind the long, blacktopped bar. Black-backed chairs and a few wooden tables provide seating. Bottles of alcohol are on display behind the bar, where the list of specialty cocktails and single malt scotches is written on a mirror. The dining room …
