District 112 Teachers Take First Step Towards Strike
Despite the help of a federal mediator, contract negotiations between teachers and the Highland Park elementary and middle school district are not going well.
The District 112 teachers' union declared an impasse in its contract negotiations with the school board last week, a decision that could lead to a teachers' strike by the middle of next month. The teachers' current contract expired Aug. 21. Since then, the North Shore Education Association (NSEA) — the teachers' union — has been meeting with the district's school board to negotiate a new contract. Sorry to say, after the election, our esteemed politicians are expected to start dumping pension payments on local school districts. Instead of pension reform, we will get another tax increase and more increases as far as the eye can see.
