A Cicero Police Department officer has been charged with criminally transmitting HIV, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said. John Savage, 38, of LaGrange Park appeared in Bond Court today in Maywood. He was given an I-Bond, meaning he was released on his promise to appear at his next court date scheduled for March 21st at the Maywood Courthouse. Cook County Sheriff’s Police Detectives were notified by LaGrange Police about the incident that occurred on July 29, 2012. According to the 24-year-old man, he and Savage went to a movie on July 29 and after the movie went to Savage’s home in LaGrange Park and engaged in sexual activity. Steven L. Robbins has returned to the custody of the Indiana Department of Corrections, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said. Robbins, 44, made a brief court appearance Friday at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse, located at 26th and California Ave., where a judge quashed the warrant for Robbins’ arrest that was issued after he was mistakenly released from Cook County Jail on Wednesday. Members of the Sheriff’s Police Central Warrants Unit returned Robbins early this afternoon to the Indiana Department of Corrections, where he is serving a 60-year sentence for murder and having a gun without a license. The Cook County Sheriff’s office is seeking the public’s help apprehending an offender that has been mistakenly released. Steven L. Robbins, 44 years of age, is described as a black male, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, and weighs 190 pounds. He has a tattoo on the right side of his neck that reads “Nicole.” Robbins was born in Gary, Ind. and is serving a sentence in the Indiana Department of Corrections for murder. The Sheriff has ordered an investigation into the facts and circumstances regarding his court appearance and release from custody. Law enforcement is searching for Robbins. A Northbrook man was arrested Friday after he brutally beat a woman over the course of two days, held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her two young children, according to a release from the Cook County Sheriff’s Department. Francisco Tirado, 27, a resident of unincorporated Northbrook, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated domestic battery and one count of aggravated unlawful restraint (all felonies) as well as two counts of domestic battery and one count of interference with emergency communications related to domestic violence. Former neighbor and classmate Michael Gargiulo now facing charges in the 18-year-old case.
It’s been a long time coming, and the media wants to know why. Reporters grilled Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez at a press conference this morning where she announced the first-degree murder charges brought against alleged serial killer Michael Gargiulo in the brutal 1993 stabbing of Glenview teen Tricia Pacaccio. Gargiulo knew the Pacaccios and was friends with Tricia’s younger brother. He lived down the block from the family and according to prosecutors, stabbed the 18-year-old Glenbrook South graduate 12 times in the early morning hours of August 14, 1993.
