Garrett Endorsement Kicks Off Morrison Campaign

Retiring state senator credits Morrison for keeping taxes low in West Deerfield Township.

West Deerfield Township Supervisor Julie Morrison officially started her campaign to replace retiring state Sen. Susan Garrett (D-Lake Forest) with Garrett’s endorsement before a crowd of more than 50 supporters Thursday at a Deerfield restaurant. No other democrats have declared their candidacy to seek the nomination to succeed Garrett in the March 20 primary. Highland Park pediatrician Arie Friedman has said he will run as a Republican. Candidates have started circulating petitions for the primary.  “Julie (Morrison) has 14 years of experience as a township supervisor and knows first-hand how to balance budgets and operate an organization without debt,” Garrett said. “West Deerfield Township has the lowest tax rate of any township in …

Dold: Tax Hikes Not Off the Table

Congressman says he's open-minded about debt reduction.

Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) indicated he would not automatically reject any deficit reduction program that includes a tax increase after giving a legislative update to more than 45 people Monday at Highland Park Rotary Club meeting at the Highland Park Country Club.  “I don’t want to put it off the table,” Dold said, adding he preferred not to raise tax rates. “It’s not the right thing to do in the face of this down economy." It makes no sense to me why he would sign such a pledge if he honestly wanted to do what is best for his District. He signed it to get elected and now is having to deal with the inflexibility of such a decision. Unless he comes out and clearly denounces the pledge and says…   more ›

City Manager Will Not Be the Retiring Type

Dave Limardi will continue to work after he resigns Jan. 1, 2012.

With no specific professional plans after January 1, outgoing Highland Park City Manager Dave Limardi made one thing clear about his future during a news conference Tuesday morning at City Hall.  He is not retiring. With plans to stay in Highland Park and marry Kris Slattery October 22, Limardi said he will remain professionally active in some way. Though he feels he is at the top of his game, he has no plans to manage another municipality.  “I’m as good as I’ve ever been. I have a thought to do something else,” Limardi said. “It won’t be directly in the public service.”  After 34 years in municipal management guiding and taking direction from elected officials, Limardi said it was unlikely he would seek elective office himself. He has …

Our former mayor does himself no favor by posting unprofessional comments such as these. Is this how one who professes to want to "move the community forward" should carry himself? We all know how you feel about Councilman Mandel & Mayor Rotering. Let it go & move on. You should be thankful for landing a decent position at Mesirow. You have lamented to some, about your many woes of late; marital…   more ›
