Deerfield’s newest restaurant gets approval from Appearance Review Commission for its signs. October opening planned.
Bobby’s Deerfield cleared its first hurdle in the municipal approval process for its new restaurant in the Village when the Appearance Review Commission unanimously accepted the restaurant’s proposed signs at it Monday meeting. An establishment co-owner Bobby Arifi described as an “American bistro with an Italian influence” will plan to open in October occupying the space of the former Townhouse Kitchen + Bar. No date set for doors to shut.
Office Depot became the second retailer in April to announced plans to close a Deerfield location in the vicinity of Lake Cook and Waukegan Roads, according to store personnel Monday. No date has been set for the closing, according to store personnel, but a person was standing in front of the Waukegan Road store with a sandwich board advertising a sale arising from the news, according to people driving by the location. More than 1,600 votes were cast in last week's competition and Deerfield's Christine Stitcher was named Patch Athlete of the Week. The nominees for North Shore Patch Athlete of the Week, Feb. 13 - Feb. 19: Artie Bess, senior, wrestling, Deerfield – Bess took third place in the 220-pound division at the Class 3A wrestling state championships last weekend. Bess beat Mt. Carmel junior David Denne 3-1 in the third-place match and finished the season with a record of 40-2. Lauren Kriz, senior, girl’s basketball, Loyola Academy – Kriz tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Ramblers’ 46-31 win over Evanston in the Class 4A Evanston Regional finals. The Ramblers moved to 23-7 on the season and defeated Evanston for the second time this season. …

With more than 500,000 votes counted for this week's contest, Deerfield's Lenny Bloom came out the winner. Bloom remained undefeated on the season for wrestling with three more victories in Deerfield’s recent quad meet against Huntley, Johnsburg and Lake Zurich. The 145-pound senior is looking to get back to the state championships in his final season. While we are fully aware of the glitch in our voting system, Bloom still came out on top. Patch will be exploring a new system next week in selecting our winner due to this glitch. Almost 600 votes were cast and in the end Deerfield's Michael Alfieri claimed this week’s Athlete of the Week title. Alfieri was one of the main reasons Deerfield handed CSL North rival Glenbrook North its first loss of the season. The standout sophomore scored 13 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assist in the Warriors’ 48-42 victory. Alfieri captured 264 votes, or 44 percent. The contest literally came down to the wire, with Alfieri and Glenbrook North's Mark Johnson tied with the same amount of votes just hours before Sunday's voting deadline (midnight).
