Michael Ditka’s attorney files a second motion to suppress testimony of arresting officer.
A motion that could lead to the dismissal of charges against Michael Ditka of Deerfield was filed today in Lake County Criminal Court in Waukegan during a status hearing in the case. Ditka, son of former Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka, was arrested April 20 while sitting in a car in a Deerfield parking lot, according to his lawyer, Robert Ritacca. Ritacca said Ditka was sitting in the vehicle with another passenger. Police say man was a repeat offender who was stealing from people at Bally Total Fitness.
On Oct. 15 at about 4:50 p.m., Deerfield police were dispatched to a local Bally Total Fitness Club, located at 260 S. Waukegan Rd., to "investigate a suspicious subject who was possibly going into lockers to steal cash," according to a police report. Authorities were contacted after Bally's staff members were told by patrons that 19-year-old Conner A. Perry, of the 1700 block of Ferndale Ave., was observed going through several unlocked lockers. Upon arriving, two officers staged outside the building while a third went inside to investigate. At that time, the officer who had entered the building viewed a white male later identified as Perry "acting suspiciously." The subject was observed removing his shoes several times, then putting them…

Deerfield Police team up with Dunkin' Donuts to raise money for Special Olympics.
Like cats on a hot tin roof, Deerfield police officers were quick on their feet, working a unique beat Friday morning at Dunkin' Donuts on Lake Cook Road. Partnering with the early-morning hot spot, they were collecting donations for the Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Illinois. Communications Director Mary Anne Glowacz said everyone who made a donation Friday received a free doughnut coupon. People making larger donations received commemorative commuter coffee mugs with free coffee Friday and one-dollar refills thereafter. As well, the department sold raffle tickets for a Harley Davidson motorcycle and four flat-screen televisions. "This is a really fun way to contribute," said Glowacz. "It gives us a police …

A car crash in Deerfield Monday shutdown part of Waukegan Road while crews cleared the scene. That’s when local resident, Danny James, snapped these photos and submitted them to Patch. Apparently the Deerfield police officer was responding to an emergency call when the accident happened. The officer was removed from the vehicle and transported to Lutheran General Hospital. Witnesses tell Patch the other female driver got out of her car, was fitted for a neck brace and transported to Highland Park Hospital. Officials say the injuries appeared non-life threatening. mike: it's no different than being parked facing the wrong way on a one-way street. The assumption is that you had to have driven the wrong way to get there. Mr. Ditka was in a commercial parking area, nowhere near his residence, under the influence. The assumption is that he didn't just magically appear there; he either drove there or would have driven home. The officer is correct.   more ›
