Commit to a Healthier You in 2013

Life Time Fitness holds Commitment Day 5k Run around the country, including Chicago, for members to commit to a healthy lifestyle in 2013.

Life Time Fitness trainer Karie Stringer sees the annual uptick around New Year’s Day and into the first three months of a new year. There’s a big push from members and new members with New Year’s resolutions to lose weight. Stringer doesn’t necessary think losing weight is a good New Year’s resolution. She is also the Run Club coordinator for the Algonquin fitness center. Life Time Fitness Commitment Day, a 5k run on Jan. 1 in downtown Chicago, is the perfect way to make that change. Great Escape: Don't Get Even, Get Mad!

Exercise your frustration and anger away.

Need to release some pent-up hostility? Is your mother-in-law bugging you, your ex-husband driving you nuts, your neighbor under your skin because she’s gossiping behind your back? Get your frustration out without actually assaulting anyone, and get a great workout at the same time! Try a high energy work out like the Park District's Box and Tone class on Thursday mornings.  Classes like this are truly a great escape. When something’s bothering you, when you're feeling depressed or sad or even nervous about something, punching and kicking without hurting anyone is amazing! But aside from the emotional benefit, it’s also great for physical health, too. “This is a drill based, full body kickboxing class where you’re using your upper body, …

Leading by Example

Dana Pieper doesn't just teach group fitness classes in Highland Park, she does each and every one right alongside you.

Having no professional experience teaching classes, Pieper asked her husband what he thought of the idea. "They're going to pay you to work out?" he asked her. "Go for it!"  Pieper began teaching kickboxing. Then she started taking fitness education …
