Illinois Home Foreclosures Top National Average

See what local homes are listed in foreclosure on AOL Real Estate.

Illinois home foreclosure activity is four times the national average, reports Chicago Real Estate Daily. Data reflects nearly 138,000 homes in Illinios were in "foreclosure inventory" at the end of the first quarter, 36 percent higher than the same period last year, according to the story. The highest increase was in the number of pre-foreclosure homes pending repossession, reported Chicago Real Estate Daily. Area home foreclosures listed on AOL Real Estate include:

Three North Shore Communities Among Those With Fewest Foreclosures

'Crain's Chicago Business' analyzed the largest 100 Chicago suburbs and came up with the list of 10 healthiest and 10 rockiest in terms of the percent of homes in foreclosure.

Lake Forest, Wilmette and Highland Park rank among the 10 healthiest Chicago suburbs in terms of the number of homes in foreclosure, according to a study by Crain's Chicago Business. The paper looked at the 100 largest Chicago suburbs and ranked them by the number of lender-owned homes for every 1,000 mortgageable properties. On the North Shore, Lake Forest was the big winner with only 1.5 lender-owned homes per 1,000. Wilmette came in at 2.4 and Highland Park at 2.5. Its all how you look at it. In my area, recent sales of unkept, not remodeled homes of people who died went for $500k, and my $1.1 million house is now appraised at $600k, which is totally NOT fair being the lowball sales were to people who upgraded seriously the houses and made them worth $1million yet i can't selll my house cause of these low ball sales, not foreclosures. Sheriff Keeps Responsibility for Foreclosures

Lake County lobbies successfully against Foreclosure Sale Bill.

Lake County leaders celebrated the defeat of HB1293, a bill that would have allowed for-profit foreclosure companies to conduct the foreclosure sale process, instead of the sheriff’s office. “Our courts and sheriff’s office have providing counseling, information and compassion in this very emotional time for homeowners going through the foreclosure process,” said County Board Chairman David Stolman. The bill would have allowed banks to choose whether the county sheriff or a private firm handled the foreclosure process. The  Lake County Sheriff's Office currently conducts the mortgage foreclosure sale process and provides information about the defendant's rights, as well as available social or legal services.
