Highland Park High School Debate Team Preparing for Prestigious Competition

The Highland Park High School debate team will compete in a congressional debate hosted by Harvard University Feb. 16-18, reports the Chicago Tribune. Topics will include foreign affairs, economic and public welfare. Congressional Debate is a public speaking event in which current events are debated, simulating a real legislative situation as might be found in Washington D.C. or Springfield, according to the debate team's Website. Students have the opportunity to write legislation on a variety of topics and debate with other area high schools at a monthly tournament.
