The Highwood and Highland Park police are investigating four incidents in the past two weeks where students reported that they were approached by adults asking them if they wanted a ride.

The first two both occurred after school outside of Oak Terrace School, on April 22 and April 24. The suspect was described as a white male in his mid-30s with black spiky hair, a goatee and a tattoo of a star on his forearm. On May 7, a Northwood junior high student reported that she was approached near the Highwood Ballpark by a man in a vehicle asking if she wanted a ride. She refused and the man drove off. A Highland Park teen who was arrested last year after two Deerfield teens broke into the home where he lives has been convicted of drug and theft charges. Police investigation into a Highland Park home invasion last year led to the arrest of Jacob A. Lynn, 18, who lives at the home that was broken into. A 73-year-old woman has been arrested for fleeing a car crash in Highland Park that left a 77-year-old woman hospitalized with "a long road to recovery."
A 73-year-old Northbrook woman was arrested last week and charged in a hit-and-run in Highland Park that has left a 77-year-old woman hospitalized with "a long road to recover," according to the Highland Park Police Department. Police responded to the intersection of Sheridan Road and Elm Place at around 9 p.m. on May 2 after receiving a report of a traffic crash. The investigation indicated that a vehicle traveling southbound struck the pedestrian as she was crossing Sheridan Road. The driver fled the scene, according to Highland Park Police. The investigation into the death of Highland Park resident and Highwood restaurant owner Giacomo Ruggirello in a suspicious house fire last September continues to uncover more information and spark unconfirmed rumors of possible mob ties. A story in Thursday's Chicago Tribune reports the investigation has uncovered a missing restaurant safe and a will that may have been finalized by Ruggirello days before his death that disinherited his daughters and left his money to a friend in Italy.
