No children sustain life threatening injuries as at least five ambulances transport students to local hospitals. Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District are first on scene.
(Update at 10:30 p.m.) A total of 22 people were taken to the hospital today as the result of a collision between two trucks and a school bus, according to a news release from the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District. Half of the 40 students on the bus sustained non life threatening injuries, according to the release. Of the 22 injured, 20 were students on the bus from Palombi Middle School in Lake Villa. The other two people hurt were the bus driver and one of the truck drivers. The collision occurred at 9:30 a.m., according to the release. Representatives from Lake Villa School District 41 arrived at the scene after the crash to supervise the transfer of the uninjured students to another bus. (Earlier at 11:33 a.m.) A school …

Deerfield, Highland Park and Illinois State Police assist after Chicago man is clocked at 103 miles per hour on Highway 41.
A Chicago man driving in excess of 100 miles per hour on Highway 41 in Highland Park today set in motion a search effort by Highland Park, Deerfield and Illinois State Police, according to Deputy Highland Park Police Chief George Pfutzenreuter. Joshua Klein, 21, of Chicago was arrested by Highland Park police today for fleeing and eluding, driving under the influence, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and speeding, according to Pfutzenreuter. Klein was later transferred to the custody of Morton Grove police because of an outstanding warrant for theft. Teens learn it’s not so easy to drink, text and drive.
Deerfield High School students lined up Monday to get their chance to drive drunk. But don’t worry, there wasn’t any actual alcohol involved. Illinois State Police set up two driving simulators in the hallway. One tested students' ability to drive while texting. The other demonstrated the difficulties of driving while under the influence. “I literally couldn’t see anything,” sophomore Sarah Ginn commented after strapping on the drunk goggles. “My vision was blurred and it made me feel really dizzy.” According to State Trooper Maria Navarro, cell phones are also a huge danger for everyone, including teenagers, when behind the wheel. “For the last two years we’ve seen an increase,” Navarro said when it comes to accidents caused by drivers …
