Josh Norris and Joseph Mahoney used a ruse to gain entry to a Deerfield home and take a gun the night before the Highland Park home invasion, according to police.
Police say that the Deerfield teens who were charged with breaking into a Highland Park home Aug. 2 stole the shotgun used during the break-in the night before from a Deerfield home, In the gun case, Josh Norris and Joseph Mahoney were both charged Aug. 3 with residential burglary, a Class 1 Felony, and misdemeanor theft by Deerfield Police for allegedly taking the gun Mahoney used when entering the Highland Park home in the 3000 block of Parkside. The information was released today by Deputy Deerfield Police Chief Rick Wilk.. Jacob Lynn was a source of marijuana supply to Josh Norris and Joseph Mahoney, according to Mahoney’s lawyer.
A prior relationship existed between the two Deerfield teens charged with burglarizing a Highland Park house Aug. 3 and a 17-year-old resident of the home, according to the attorney for one of the suspects. Joseph Mahoney and Josh Norris, both 17, of Deerfield, were charged with breaking into a Highland Park home in the 3000 block of Parkside Aug. 3 where Jacob Lynn, 17, lives. Lynn was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to sell Friday stemming from the police investigation into the burglary. The Lake County State's Attorney's office decided to charge 17-year-olds Joseph Mahoney and Josh Norris as adults because of "the serious nature of the crimes." Deerfield High School will not comment on whether seniors Mahoney and Norris will face disciplinary action because of felony charges arising out of a Highland Park home invasion.
