Landmark Renaissance Theater to Temporarily Close

Highland Park’s only movie theater will close March 8 for three months for renovations. Should the movie house make Deerbrook its temporary home?

Highland Park’s Landmark Renaissance Theaters will close March 8 for three months of renovation, which will include stadium seating and a dining option with alcohol, according to a source affiliated with the company. With the fate of the Highland Park Theatre still unknown, the three month hiatus leaves patrons of independent films with the option of going to Evanston or Chicago for that style movie. It is a great idea for theaters to become destinations. I always thought theaters should do this. If they do it like Muvico, it would be OK but not great. You cannot eat in those seats. Terrible. But if you make half-moon seating, the revenue you loose in seats would be easily made up by alcohol. Landmark Theater May Soon Serve Alcohol

Highland Park's sole movie theater in Renaissance Place may soon offer drinks to moviegoers.

While the Highland Park Theater remains closed, the Landmark Theater in Renaissance Place is making moves to become even more of a destination. Want Highland Park news in your inbox? The city's sole remaining movie theater recently got approval from the Highland Park City Council for the creation of a new liquor license that would allow alcoholic drinks to be sold in the theater's lobby, according to Highland Park City Councilwoman Sally Higginson. "Adult beverages and movies," Higginson said. "What's not to like?" The move is part of a $1 million renovation Landmark has planned.
