Schneider and Dold will square off in only live forum within 10th District Boundaries. Candidates for General Assembly and Lake County Board will meet in separate contests.
The only debate within the boundaries of the 10th Congressional District between Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) and Brad Schneider of Deerfield, his Democratic challenger, takes place at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Lake Forest High School east campus auditorium. The forum, co sponsored by the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Lake Forest/Lake Bluff, the LWV of Highland Park/Highwood and the LWV of Deerfield in coordination with Patch and the Union League Club of Chicago will also feature candidates for the Illinois General Assembly and the Lake County Board. Congressman Dold and challenger Brad Schneider will meet four times before Nov. 6 election. The only joint appearance in the 10th District is sponsored by the League of Women Voters and Patch. Three will be televised from Chicago.
Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) and his Democratic challenger, Brad Schneider of Deerfield, are scheduled to debate each other four times next month in advance of the Nov. 6 general election but for now they are debating about the debates. The only time Schneider and Dold will meet face to face within the boundaries of the 10th Congressional District is at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at Lake Forest High School. 58th District Representative candidates answer questions at forum.
Mark Neerhof and Lauren Turelli may be both Republicans running for the 58th District seat, but they split when it comes to the issue of Medicaid. Neerhof, a doctor who practices at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, is running in his first election. He has lived in Lake County for 21 years, including 15 in Deerfield and the last six in Lake Forest. Turelli has lived in Lake Forest all of her life. She currently serves on the Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Board and as an elected Republican township precinct committeeman. Debates for State Representative, State Senate and Congress will be held Feb. 26.
With the primary elections quickly approaching, the League of Women Voters is planning a debate on Feb. 26 for state representative, state senate and congressional candidates. The debates will begin at 1 p.m. at the Highland Park Country Club. 58th District State Representative Republican candidates Mark Neerhof and Lauren Turelli will go first, debating for an hour. The League of Women Voters of Lake County was pleased with the Lake County Board's outreach to it and two other organizations:NAACP and MALDEF. However, given the impact that the results of this process will have over the next 10 years, we are disappointed with the Board's attempt to make their work transparent. Contenders for 3 seats agree and disagree on issues confronting school board.
Four candidates for three seats on the North Shore School District 112 board discussed budget cuts and other issues, including school boundaries and the dual language program, at a League of Women Voters Forum at the Highland Park Country Club. Yumi Ross, Michael Cohn, Paul Tatelli and incumbent Bruce Hyman also discussed technology expenses, consolidation and the role of the school board before more than 300 people during their 40-minute debate on March 6. Ross was the only one to offer a specific suggestion when asked about the $2.7 million in cuts in the next year's budget for running the 12 elementary to middle schools.
